The Story Behind the Song
This song was born at my brother's funeral. In the middle of the service, over the sound of the organ, my mother's voice broke through everything — you could hear her crying out, "I promise I will see you again." Her screaming pain, her raw and unshakeable faith, is where this song began.
Everything in these lyrics is true. The fourteen-year-old mother. The Christmas child. The motorcycle accident on that dark November day. The four thousand, one hundred, and fifty-seven days she stood beside him. The leg he lost. The fight he never gave up. All of it — her story, her love, her miracle.
I didn't write this song to perform it. I wrote it because her cry deserved to be heard beyond that funeral. Because a mother's promise to her son is one of the most sacred things on this earth. I hope it finds you wherever your grief lives — and reminds you that love reaches past the grave.
